Foregenix CCO Benj Hosack has recently collaborated with reputable tech industry magazine ‘Disruption’. In this two-page feature, Benj discusses cybercrime, what people can do to detect cyber-attacks and what to do if you’re a victim. Benj is a Director and co-Founder of Foregenix, but is also considered an influential voice in the world of cyber security.
Disruption is a magazine targeting business leaders, with content created by business leaders. They draw on the experience and talent of their members to share their expertise, insights and inspiration. The magazine seeks to understand the technologies and business models that are transforming industry sectors.
“The cost to businesses of such attacks will vary according to the data that’s exposed but breaches are getting more expensive and its often the smaller firms that are hardest hit. Visa for example, imposes a fine on European merchants of up to €18 for each stolen set of card data. Given that it can take six months for a trader to even realise they have been hacked, a merchant with 100,000 transactions a year could easily face a fine in the region of €450,000 - a potentially fatal blow to an SME.” – Benj Hosack, Foregenix
The article is featured in the September issue of the publication, titled ‘Balance of Power: 2017’. The article goes into detail about various aspects of cyber security and what you can do to keep protected online. Raising awareness about the costs that cyber criminals are inflicting on businesses at the moment is paramount.
In 2016, 3.1billion records were leaked, with half of UK businesses reporting a cyber attack against their systems. It’s our aim to encourage awareness of cyber security - the more people that are aware of the problem, the more likely they will be to protect themselves.
“A speedy and well-rehearsed response is crucial in minimising damage. By investing time and thought today, attacks tomorrow will have less impact and any spend will easily repay itself by reducing losses.” – Benj Hosack, Foregenix
