The New York Attorney General has been overwhelmed with the number of data breaches this year - 40% increase on the same time in 2015.

What does this tell us?

Is New York being singled out as a juicy target - being one of the key financial centres in the global economy?  Perhaps, but unlikely.

We believe that it is more likely that this is a firm indicator that data compromises are increasing at a rapid rate year on year in most advanced online economies - certainly where there is personal data/payment card data that can easily be monetized.

We also know that the number of PCI Forensic Cases we have managed have increased SIX-FOLD in the last 2 years alone.

Have a quick read of our Payment Threatscape Update presentation from January 2016 - focused mainly on eCommerce businesses (as they are the victim of the majority of the breaches we investigate).
